Our day started early this morning around 6:30 a.m., we headed down to eat some hotel breakfast and then we were on the road for the day!
Anna and I continued our beauty rest in the car as we made our way to Oklahoma City for lunch. In addition to that, I did some work and published our first blog post this morning.
At around 1:30 we arrived in Oklahoma City, where we ate lunch and did some sightseeing.
We ate lunch at a place called Smitty’s Garage, it was delicious. It is a car repair shop themed burger joint, that serves tacos as well. Anna and my Mom each had a burger while my Dad and I had tacos.
Following a delicious lunch, we walked several blocks to where we could see the federal courthouse. On the way there we passed by the Oklahoma school of law and of course I stopped for a picture. The architecture of the buildings in the downtown area was absolutely gorgeous! Some were more modern than others but all were beautiful.
After seeing the the courthouse and law school we headed towards the Oklahoma City bombing memorial. It was a very solemn and peaceful area of the city, rich which history and culture. Each part of the memorial had a separate meaning which made it very interesting to learn and read about. One notable feature was the reflecting pool, it was a beautiful and added great character to the memorial even though it was only about one inch deep.
If you look closely at the wall behind were Anna and I are standing you can see the time 9:01, which is the time when the bombing occurred. On the top left picture, you can see the field of empty chairs these represent those who lost their lives and include an etched name on the glass bottom of each chair.
After spending some time at the memorial we headed towards the car but, made several stops along the way. One of which was a locally owned store that specializes in screen printing. They had an abundance of local merchandise and cute gifts. Some of the merchandise included stickers, sweatshirts, office supplies, magnets and much more. After my Mom and I purchased T-Shirts, we made our way to a coffee shop.
The coffee shop which was called Coffee Slingers, had a modern and cozy feel and the coffee was great. With coffee in hand we headed back to the car and started our journey to Amarillo, Texas.
We drove until about 7:00, when we stopped for late dinner and dined on our gourmet sandwiches from the cooler…
After we finished, we continued driving until we reached our Hilton hotel in Amarillo, Texas around 8:10 p.m.
After we were settled in our hotel room, I recorded the second audio segment of our series and worked on today’s blog post making sure everything was ready to post.
Overall, Friday was an excellent day, filled with sightseeing, good food and driving! I look forward to tomorrow!
