Our drive to Zion was very scenic and lasted approximately two hours. The route took us up in to the mountains and frequently provided a breathtaking view of the land below. At one point, a small and tranquil lake laying in the midst of a city was able to be seen from the HIghway, and was absolutely gorgeous.
There are several hikes along the entrance to Zion that provide you with an opportunity to see a beautiful and exquisite view of the park. Our first hike was one called Canyon Overlook. The trial was short only being only one mile long and had an elevation gain of 163 feet as you hiked under the overhanging cliffs and over the small hills. However it provided a view that worth a much longer hike, the vast like area of Zion National Park could be traced as far as the eye could see. The high rock walls with the green plants and vegetation laying in between.
After taking several pictures we hiked back to the bottom and headed into the city of Springdale to eat a quick bite of lunch. Our restaurant of choice was Camp Outpost. The food was delicious and tasted like it was homemade, especially the rotisserie chicken.
Once the four of us were ready to do our second hike we headed back into Zion on the park service bus. The first stop was the Visitor Center where we got information on trails, filled up our water bottles and bought souvenirs. Then, we headed deep into the Temple of Shiwarma bus stop. This stop was a trial head that accessed The Narrows. Despite them being closed to the influx of rain this year, the trail provided a way to still see them and beautiful river. Once you complete the short 1 mile walk to the end where there is a pretty view of The Narrows with the river cutting through the canyon.
My mom had planned for us to do an additional four mile hike that goes through the lower, middle and upper pools but, we decided that time would not allow for us to complete the hike and still have a ride out on the bus. So once that verdict was reached, it was time to head towards the car and say bye to Zion National Park.
From Zion National Park we drove to St. George Utah for a delicious Italian dinner and to restock our groceries. By the time dinner and grocery shopping was complete the time was 10:00. As my Dad drove us back to our tiny home we talked about our next adventure in the Grand Canyon. Until then, the Great Pink Sand Dunes and Kanab will be plenty of fun!
