The sunrise over the Grand Canyon is something truly remarkable and indescribable thing that one is able to see.
A sunrise means an early 4 am start to the day… but is to totally worth it! The four of us got dressed and drove to Mather Point where the sun could be seen peeking over the Canyon in the early hours. The colors in the sky leading up the big moment were layered in a ombré series of colors. Shades of orange, pink, red and yellow filled the morning sky and colored the white clouds to match the rest of the sky. After the colors reached the darkest point, they began to become more of a pastel color, making the sun the center of attention. Around 5:15, the sun began to peak over the canyon wall and cast light on the rocks in front over where we were standing which was absolutely beautiful. After a few minutes the sun was completely risen and cast a bright warm light us as we walked back to the car.
After going back to the lodge to pack our luggage into the car and finish getting ready, we headed to El Tovar Lodge for final activity at Grand Canyon National Park. The food was outstanding and the view of the Grand Canyon seen through the windows and the fireplace made the meal even better!
By the time we finished breakfast it was around 8:00 and the mini van was headed to our next stop, Petrified Forrest National Park. This park was definitely different than the others we have visited on this trip. The “forrest” was more of a dessert with fallen petrified tress scattered throughout the landscape. At one viewpoint you were also able to view a slab of rock that housed etched petroglyphs on its surface, which is know as the Newspaper Rock. It was interesting to see wood so old that had turned to rock over many years.
The next roadtrip stop was Saguaro National Park, the park of cacti! Saguaro, was one of the most unique and fun parks we have visited even though it consist of just cacti and desert. An average cactus in the park was about 20-25 feet tall. The shape and structure of the cacti reminded us of the Taco Casa cactus so, it was fun to drive through a park full of them. After taking several pictures and watching a beautiful sunset we headed towards our stay for the night, a Holiday Inn located in Deming, New Mexico.
