From our the hotel in Texas, there was a seven hour drive to San Antonio. So once the four of us were up and had eaten breakfast, we loaded up in the car and headed towards San Antonio, Texas.
Stopping for lunch at The Backdoor Cafe around 12:30 added some time to our route. The food was excellent and so was the sweet tea! The restaurant was attached to a small confidence store where we went following our meal.
Arriving in San Antonio, Texas around 2:30, we headed towards the Alamo which is a piece of Texas and U.S. history. The Alamo was far smaller than I expected it to be, which was interesting. It was neat to see a structure that played such an important role in U.S. history and stand in the same area where troops stood fighting for Texas independence. We spent about 30 minutes before heading to the gift shop.
After the Alamo we went to a unique place called Buckhorn. It is a building with a bar serving draft root beer on the bottom floor and then a museum on the upper floors. My Dad decided to do the museum while Anna, Mom and I did some shopping. However, we realized there were more restaurants than stores downtown so, we headed to the hotel.
Once at the hotel, my Mom checked us in and then the three of us went to get our luggage of the car and took it to the hotel room. Then I looked for a place to eat dinner while Anna and my Mom rested. Once we had decided to eat at a place called Iron Cactus and my Dad was back at the hotel, it was time to get ready.
The Iron Cactus was located along the river walk, a must see in San Antonio. Our food was so good, it was a Tex-Mex type cuisine and had excellent flavor… especially the queso!
Following dinner, my mom purchased our tickets for the riverboat ride. I had torn out a picture in a magazine of the riverboat floating down the San Antonio river at night when I was little. So, it was fun to do something I had always wanted to do as a little kid. The boat ride took us past several significant San Antonio landmarks such as Marriage Island, where my parents were engaged. After cruising the river for about 40 minutes our cruise concluded.
My parents wanted a picture on marriage island so, we walked to the island before heading to watch the Saga. The Saga is a Movie telling the history of Texas through an animated series of pictures that are projected on the face of the Saint Fernando Cathedral. The movie in total last about 30 minutes.
Once the movie Saga had concluded we headed towards the hotel to get some much needed rest and I updated the blog. San Antonio is a beautiful city, rich with Texas history.
